A FOSTER service held a celebratory dinner to praise the work of carers who have helped to transform the lives of children in care.
Leicestershire County Council (LCC) issued a special ‘thank you’ to foster carers who have gone the extra mile to help vulnerable children at the dinner on Tuesday March 5.
At the dinner, 80 carers who were deemed to have gone above and beyond the call of duty were nominated for awards.
LCC chairman Peter Lewis, who hosted the dinner, praised the carers for their dedicated work.
He said: “Our foster carers simply transform the lives of children and young people and we value their contribution enormously.
“It is right that we should take the time to say thank you.
“It was a pleasure to meet them and hear their inspirational and heart-warming stories.
“Fostering is one of the most challenging but also rewarding things you can do.
“I hope the event inspires people to find out more about becoming a foster carer.”
The dinner was the second annual event the authority has held.
Awards were given for long serving carers and carers who had been nominated by their foster children.
This year’s awards also recognised carers who offered children the opportunity to live with them as a lodger, and ‘independent visitors’, who also provide support to foster children.
