Four shops attacked by vandals could be linked

Written byHELEN KREFT

POLICE believe vandal attacks on three hair salons and a post office in Stapenhill may be linked.

The Mail reported yesterday that The Hair Lounge, in Main Street, may have to fork out £2,000 to replace its windows after stones were hurled through them at the weekend.

It has now emerged that two other salons were attacked in a similar manner.

As the Mail went to press, Indigo, in St Peter’s Street, was still boarded up while Headlines hair salon, in Woods Lane, also fell victim.

Sally Myshrall, proprietor of Headlines, said: “I was told at about 9am on Sunday by my client, so I came rushing down and reported it to the police.

“I still have the stone they used.

“I also saw that The Hair Lounge and Indigo had been vandalised, as well as the post office.

“All these businesses have been disrupted.

“I am okay as I had double glazing and it smashed the outside glass, which fell onto the pavement, but it is still the cost of replacing the window.”

Andrew Upton, who has owned The Hair Lounge for just three months, told the Mail he had spent his Sunday clearing up glass from inside his shop.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said the force believed the incidents were linked and is now appealing for information.

The spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of three incidents of criminal damage in Stapenhill.

“There were reports of smashed shop windows at 9am in Woods Lane, and at 2.40pm in St Peter’s Street, both on Sunday, and again at 11am on Monday at Stapenhill Post Office, in St Peter’s Street.

“Investigations are now under way.”

A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old, both from Burton, have been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage relating to the Indigo salon, and have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident numbers 207 and 404 of January 26

The spokesman added: “The incidents are believed to be linked but investigations are ongoing.”
