A TRIO of friends completed an epic 90-mile canoe trip to raise money for a forces charity.
Dean Clifford, 51, of Hawkins Lane, Burton, and his friends Dave Taylor, 50, of Meynell Street, Church Gresley, and Andy Jones, 49, of Derby, paddled along the Trent canal.
They decided to donate the money to Combat Stress, which treats servicemen with mental health problems, after Mr Jones, an ex-serviceman, suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder last year.
Mr Clifford, who served in the armed forces for 10 years, told the Mail he hoped the team had raised £1,500.
He said: “The journey took us six days. We were hoping to do it in four or five but I think we underestimated just how many locks there are but it was a really good experience.
“There was good camaraderie and it reminded me of being back in the forces.
“We are trying to decide what we will do next year now.”
