THE very first customer to receive a treat from a South Derbyshire fund-raiser is to return the favour at her charity’s annual ball.
Kiana Carrington wanted to go out, in a taxi, for a meal with her boyfriend to celebrate her 18th birthday back in 2007, but instead, Ticknall-based Maria Hanson, from Me & Dee, organised a Rolls Royce with a Chauffeur to pick them up and dressed the table in her favourite colours and flowers.
Now, Kiana, who suffers from Perthes Disease, a congenital condition that affects the bones and brings on arthritis, is to support Maria as part of her 7th annual Me & Dee ball and will speak to the audience.
The black tie event is being held to raise money for the charity which provides a caravan holiday for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, as well as Comfort Packs for hospitals.
The packs include toiletries and activities for children who have been suddenly admitted to hospital after a diagnosis, and for their parents. There are also age appropriate packs.
The Me & Dee seventh annual Black Tie Ball will be held from 7.15pm until 1am on Saturday, September 28 at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium.
As well as Cliff Richard and Elton John tribute acts, there will also be an auction, raffle and a disco by GC Events.
However, the charity will also be benefiting from the release of a new single Life Goes on which will be performed live at the event incorporating a video of children and adults who have touched Me & Dee but have since died.
Tickets are priced £45 and include drinks on arrival, a three-course meal, auction and raffle, live entertainment from two of the UK’s top tribute acts, celebrity lookalikes, disco and photobooth.
