Fund-raiser to step in line helping those with mental health issues

Written byBY HELEN KREFT

A 23-YEAR-OLD is taking on a challenging fund-raising mission by walking 10,000 steps a day.

Chloe Pickering is hoping to raise money for mental health charity Mind by taking on the near-impossible task every day for six weeks.

Miss Pickering, who works at the Mind charity shop, in High Street, Swadlincote, who will be keeping track of her progress with a pedometer, said: “I am doing this because there is one in every four people who suffer from a mental health problem.

“A lot of the time the illness is not fully understood and prone to stigma, or overlooked and needs more acknowledgement.

“The money raised will help a lot of people with mental health issues receive the help and support they need.”

Mind launched the mental health challenge yesterday after research shows that those who are more active have a greater sense of wellbeing and lower rates of depression and anxiety.

Miss Pickering can be sponsored online by visiting http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Chloe10000 or by visiting the Swadlincote shop to fill in a sponsorship form.
