Fund-raising tea and cake morning for Trudy's Trust
THE close friend of a Burton mother who died as a result of a brain tumour has organised an event to raise muchneeded funds for research into brain tumours.
Jo Davies, of Woodville, revealed that she was hosting a coffee morning next month following the tragic loss of Trudy Shingler who passed away last year just months after learning she had cancer.
The 35-year-old left behind husband Lea and young son Phoenix, and Mrs Davies hopes that this event will help support the family and raise cash for Trudy’s Trust, a cancer charity set up in her honour.
She said: “I first met Trudy after our husbands worked together for a while and from that point we became good friends.
“Our sons were born three months apart and thus we spent some of our maternity leave together and bonded.
“Afterwards we continued to meet up for coffee and were good friends — it is still shocking to think that she is no longer with us.”
Mrs Shingler passed away on February 6, 2011, at her Redwood Drive home in Brizlincote Valley surrounded by her family and friends.
She had been diagnosed with a brain tumour in September 2010.
Mrs Davies, 30, added: “So we decided to host a coffee morning from 11am to 2pm on March 24 at the Box Club in Woodville to raise money for Trudy’s Trust.
“We will be charging £3.50 for entry which will get you a cup of tea or coffee and a nice slab of homemade cake — all of this will go to the trust.
“We will also be having a nearly new sale and various trinkets such as teapots, mugs and knitted covers for sale.
“I just want to ask everyone to spare a few moments, come down and support a very good cause.”
Mrs Shingler won a number of West Midlands and national beauty queen titles before becoming an equally successful forensic psychologist.
