A POLICE force is to be scaled down on the back of Government funding cuts, it has been announced.
Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sir Clive Loader said he was ‘surprised’ and ‘disappointed’ as the Government released details of the force’s budget over the next two years.
He admitted the announcement would result in a ‘smaller, leaner force’, with police staff to be tasked with handling some roles previously undertaken by police officers.
Alan Charles, PCC in Derbyshire (pictured), hit out at the fact a new £50 million innovation funds and improvements to the Independent Police Complaints Commission would come out of the funding pot.
Mr Charles said the police budget was being cut ‘under a thinly veiled disguise of good news’ and said the reduction in funding would have an impact on policing in Derbyshire.
The county’s funding is set to be slashed by more than £1 million.
