John Taylor High School - GCSE Results 2010

Year 11 pupils were today celebrating after receiving some excellent results in their GCSE, BTEC and Diploma courses. 72% of John Taylor pupils gained at least 5 A* - C grades including both English and Maths - the government’s preferred measure of success. 81% gained 5 or more A* - Cs in their subjects. Both of these figures are increases on the achievements of pupils the previous year.

Many pupils gained outstanding results. Particularly noteworthy in this context are James Lane, Joseph Matchett and Elizabeth Sharkey, all of who gained all 10 of their GCSEs at A* grade. However, a significant number of pupils ran them close, achieving numerous A*s of their own. Indeed, the year group between them achieved 24 A*s in Mathematics and 66 A*s in English Language and English Literature. At Diploma and BTEC, there were similar successes, with *distinctions being achieved.

“Yet again, John Taylor has demonstrated that the ability and commitment of pupils, staff and parents, working in partnership, leads to excellent levels of achievement”, commented Headteacher, Mike Donoghue. “It’s a great feeling for both pupils and staff. But what is most pleasing for me is to drill down beneath the global figures, excellent though they may be, to find the individual stories of personal achievement and endeavour – whether it leads to high academic success or reaching goals that enable the pupil to develop along their chosen educational, training or employment pathway.”
