COMMUNITY groups based in Rolleston-on-Dove have been given a financial boost following the annual village gala.
Rolleston Scout Group and the Almshouses Trust shared the proceeds from the gala, which took place on the August Bank Holiday and saw much of the village turn out to enjoy a horticultural show, craft fair and other activities.
Rolleston Scout Group received £432.41 towards a three-year project aiming to build a children’s home in Kikambala, Kenya, for youngsters who have been orphaned or suffer from extreme deprivation. Youngsters across Staffordshire are taking part in the project, and each individual needs £3,000 to get involved.
A further cheque for £864.82 was given to the Almshouses Trust. The organisation is trying to raise money for a major renovation at the historic site, which is marking its tri-centenary this year. A fund-raising appeal has been launched to try to support the cause, and bring the properties up to modern standards.
Representatives from both groups received cheques from Rolleston Club.
