GENEROUS Burton Albion fans have helped to boost funds for a town charity by getting involved with an appeal by Bretby Rotary Club.
Supporters were urged to dig deep to support the Burton and District YMCA when the Brewers played Cheltenham at home on January 11 – and dig deep they did.
A total of £500 was raised for the charity, which supports people struggling with deprivation and homelessness.
The money will go towards the YMCA Change Life Fund, which is currently working to provide three extra bedrooms for the Reconnect Centre, in James Street, as well as continuing to fund the charity’s foodbank.
The money was presented to Burton and District YMCA president and Burton Albion Football Club chairman Ben Robinson in a handover at the Pirelli Stadium.
Bretby Rotary president Andrew Smart said: “The big-heartedness of the Albion fans was astonishing and our thanks go out to everyone who put their hands in their pockets and donated.”
Mr Robinson thanked the club for its generosity.
