‘WILL you marry me?’ is perhaps the most important question of a couple’s life, but for one Burton pair it was overshadowed by ‘who ya gonna call?’.
Bride to be Claire Heathcote got the shock of her life when groom and love of her life Simon arrived to pick her up for their big day in ECTO 1 – the car used by the Ghostbusters team in the smash-hit American films.
The couple, who live in Stapenhill, were then whisked off to Burton Register Office, in High Street, with sirens and lights blaring, before being named Mr and Mrs Webber.
“What better way to celebrate a Halloween wedding than with the use of the iconic Ghostbusters car?” said 37-year-old Simon.
“It helped combine my love of all things Ghostbusters, which I have loved since I was boy, with the main love in my life Claire.
“It was great to bring all these things together to make the greatest day of my life even greater.”
The blushing bride told the Mail: “It was a bit of a shock, but the car looked great and it just added something different to our special occasion.”
After exchanging vows in front of family and friends, the happy couple cruised off into the sunset to continue their celebrations, proudly wearing wedding rings on their fingers.
The car is a replica of ‘ECTO 1a’, which was the upgraded iconic ghoul mobile seen in the Ghostbusters sequel.
Although the owners of the car cannot prove that it was actually used in the 1980s movies starring Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd, there is a good chance it may have played a part, as numerous vehicles were used to produce the popular films.
Mike Lawrence, cabinet member for community, culture and localism for Staffordshire County Council, which runs the register office, said: “We always welcome different ideas and themes for weddings at our registration offices.
“We have had couples arriving for their ceremony in a red London bus, a tractor and even an Army tank.
“And, as the groom, Simon, is such a huge fan of the films, what better mode of transport than the iconic Ghostbusters car for his day?”
