AN ongoing project to refurbish an historic church organ has been boosted by a donation by a county council leader.
FIDO, the Fund-raising Initiative for Doveridge Organ, received a cheque for £400 from the village’s Derbyshire County Councillor Andrew Lewer, as part of the Community Leadership scheme.
The organ at St Cuthbert’s church was last refurbished in 1974 and the decision to renovate it was taken in 2010. The current work has been going on for six months and is now almost complete. It will cost about £40,000.
FIDO has been fund-raising for the last two years and, through a variety of grants and fund-raising activities and has raised £25,000 towards the cost.
Colin Bryan, one of the members of FIDO, said: “This grant provides additional income for our fund-raising. We should like to thank Andrew for his support for our project.”
