A TOP business leader has welcomed the announcement from the deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg that the fifth round of bidding for the Regional Growth Fund will open in October.
The fund was set up to help companies in England using private sector investment to create economic growth and sustainable employment.
George Cowcher, chief executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber welcomed the latest round of bidding for the fund.
He said: “The crucial difference between this round and previous ones is that funding from round five will be geared towards private sector enterprise rather than the mixed public and private sector schemes the previous rounds have supported.
“This means the funding will directly support businesses which put forward viable bids which will lead to further investment and employment in the private sector.”
