VOLUNTEERS are being urged to come forward and take part in restoration work on the Ashby Canal.
The work will take place this weekend and will be based at Moira Furnace.
A spokesman from the Ashby Canal Trust told the Mail: “You are invited to join us for one or both days, where we will be carrying out bank tidying and maintenance, and general canalside works on the Ashby Canal.
“The event is supported by the rust, with assistance from the Ashby Canal Association.
“The Ashby Canal at Moira was restored a few years ago and now needs a tidy up to keep it looking good.
“Bring loppers, rakes, secateurs or other hand tools but no power tools please due to insurance requirements.
“Stout footwear and gardening type gloves recommended.
“We are pleased to be holding this work party in conjunction with the national organisation, the Waterways Recovery Group, who have had many successes with waterways restoration over the years.”
Anyone interested in taking part shoudl meet at 10 am at Moira Furnace, in Furnace Lane, Moira
Refreshments will be provided during the day.
Brian Waring, chairman of the Ashby Canal Trust, said: “We look forward to welcoming all who would like to come and help us this weekend to keep this showpiece length of the Ashby Canal up to scratch.”
