AN historic bathroom company will be able to celebrate the centenary of its home next year after a takeover by a rival which will take on its name.
B Grice Ltd, of Alexandra Road, Swadlincote, has now ceased trading in its current form but rival company, Your Space Kitchen and Bathrooms, in Rink Drive, has now moved into the premises and will become ‘Your Space at Grice’s’.
The newly named company is now trading from Grice’s former Crown Stores, in Alexandra Road, while its second premises on the same road still remains empty.
The Crown Store building opened in Swadlincote in 1914 and the business formerly based there was taken over by B Grice Ltd in 1965 – which sold the same stock - and quickly established itself as a reputable company specialising in kitchen and bathrooms.
Your Space has not bought the company but has bought its stock.
Colin Latham, director of B Grice Ltd, said: “Anna (Grice) and I have made the decision to step away from running a business due to Anna’s poor health. In this move we see that Gregg is going to take Crown Stores in great direction and we wish him all the best in the future.”
Gregg Parker, director of Your Space at Grice’s, said: “This move is the next step in the Your Space, established 2009, expansion.
“I have been offered the opportunity to move into a vastly bigger premises and be able to offer much more to the local people with bigger and better display areas and hopefully the introduction of a full trade counter for the local trades people.
“We have decided to incorporate the Grice’s name into Your Space as being local lad I’ve been using Grice’s all my life and want to keep that name going for many more years to come.”
The Crown Store is now having an 80 per cent off stock and showroom clearance sale as it removes the remaining stock.
Your Space will also remain at the Rink Drive premises for some months until it is able to move its stock into its new home.
