A HOARD of Edwardian postcards showing historic Burton are set to go under the hammer in an auction, after they were handed in at the town hall.
Around 250 pictures, including approximately 200 depicting Burton and its people, were taken along to a valuation day at the town hall, and they are now due to go up for sale for £200 at Richard Winterton’s Lichfield Salerooms the week after next.
Adrian Rathbone, from the auction house, said it was the biggest collection of Burton postcards he had ever seen.
“The collection comprises hundreds of postcards showing views in Burton thus giving a fascinating insight as to how it looked a hundred years ago,” he said.
Amongst the postcards are pictures of local sites including churches and the Trent Bridge, as well as breweries, with one showing a group of Bass employees in front of a vast pile of barrels waiting to be sent out.
Another interesting one shows a couple on the Outwoods recreation with the line ‘have had the time of my life here’.
