CHRISTMAS shoppers in Burton will be dancing on ice after it was revealed that Burton’s Market Place will house a skating rink over the festive period
East Staffordshire Borough Council has confirmed that the 1,000 sq ft rink will open from Thursday, November 22 until the end of January.
The move is part of a concerted effort to try to boost visitor numbers in the town.
Council leader Richard Grosvenor said: “It is great to be able to offer an attraction to the people of the borough that many would normally not have the opportunity to participate in.
“We really want to make visiting the town an enjoyable experience, and would love to attract new visitors to the town and the borough as a whole.
“We are also pleased to announce that the rink will be free to use on both the opening night and Christmas Eve.” At other times, the cost will be £5 for adults and £3.50 for children and it will be open from 10am to 7pm.
Town centre manager Paul Howard said: “An ice rink is something we have wanted to include as part of the town centre festive celebrations for some time now, but our efforts have been hampered due to a lack of space in a suitable and central location.
“I hope the local community and beyond enjoy having such a great family attraction on their doorstep.”
