COUNCIL chiefs have hailed the success of an event designed to raise the profile of Islam.

Exhibition Islam hosted at the Brewhouse closed on Wednesday night and has been hailed by all involved as an overwhelming success.

The event has seen a huge response from all areas of the community, with residents enjoying a variety of activities including food stalls, hand painting, storytelling, music and poetry.

The Mail previously reported that the exhibition was a unique three day event, which aspired to enlighten local communities of the richness and diversity of Islam.

The exhibition allowed members of the community to interact by asking questions and sharing experiences.

Bernard Peters, deputy leader for service commissioning, said: “The response from the communities within East Staffordshire has been excellent.

“The exhibition has enabled residents and schools to gain an insight into the Islamic religion and the life of a Muslim through an engaging and interactive exhibition.”

“I’m pleased that the Midlands Muslim Community group chose the Brewhouse as the facility to host the event.”

There were a variety of topics on display including the ‘five pillars and basic beliefs of Islam’, ‘life of Prophet Muhammad’ and ‘Islamic architecture, art and calligraphy’.

Organiser Shaid Hussain said: “The exhibition was great.”
