A JACKET which once belonged to John Lennon has been bought at auction by a Derbyshire woman as a present for her husband.
The woman, who asked not to be identified, splashed out £7,000 on the teal blue Nehru jacket at Hansons Auctioneers, Etwall.
The jacket, which belonged to the Beatle in the late 1960s, was handed to the auctioneers after being on display in a Leicestershire home for more than 25 years. It was thought the jacket could fetch up to £10,000.
Its previous owner Tony Goodard had been given the item of clothing by the group’s PA Jo Jo Johns in the early seventies, when she was tasked with clearing out Lennon’s home after his move to America.
Mr Goddard said he hoped the jacket would delight its new owner.
He said: “The jacket was given to me at one of my birthday parties in the early 1970s. Jo Jo was a good friend and she had acquired a lot of abandoned belongings from the band members.”
