A SOUTH Derbyshire charity has been boosted thanks to hotel staff at the national football centre.
Melbourne-based Me & Dee joined forces with employees from Hilton at St George’s Park as part of the firm’s global week of service.
Workers took time out of their day-to-day roles to help prepare comfort packs, which the charity provides for children and young people admitted to hospital with life-threatening conditions.
Greg Crawford, general manager, Hilton at St George’s Park, said: “Supporting local community projects and charities is a big part of the culture within Hilton Worldwide and we at St George’s Park are proud to demonstrate our commitment to the initiative during this week and throughout the year.
“The comfort packs provided by Me & Dee are an invaluable tool to help support children, young people and their families during a very stressful and worrisome time.
“By pulling together as a team and giving our time, we can help enrich the lives of others whilst developing ourselves within the work place.
“We are also committed to creatively finding opportunities to raise money for Me & Dee in order to support this very worthwhile cause.”
The volunteers from the hotel spent a week gathering the key components of the packs to prepare for a visit to the charity’s Melbourne-based offices to assist with the collation.
The packs, which contain everyday essentials and personal items, are used to help make a child or young people’s time in the hospital more comfortable.
The latest volunteering project comes only days after the hotel donated nutritious lunch bags to volunteers cycling from Derby to Mablethorpe in a bid to raise money for the charity during the 111-mile trip.
Hilton at St George’s Park selected Me & Dee as its charity of choice shortly after opening its doors for the first time in August 2012.
Selected by the hotel’s blue energy committee, staff at the hotel will raise funds throughout the course of the year.
To date, the team has handed over more than £900 and still has other activities planned.
