THE man sentenced to life in prison for the body-in-a-suitcase murder of Sylwia Ciapcinska has appeared on a police naming and shaming website.
Tomasz Sobczak, 29, of Ash Street, Burton, was unanimously convicted of murder following a five-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court last month.
He was handed a life sentence and told he would have to serve a minimum term of 20 years in prison.
Sobczak (pictured) had always denied having anything to do with the death of the Polish teacher on or after July 20 last year, before dumping her body in a suitcase.
His name and mugshot have been posted on the Behind Bars section of Staffordshire Police’s website.
The initiative is designed to keep those living in the county up to date about criminals aged 18 and over who have been jailed for six months or more at crown court.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “The Behind Bars initiative is live on the Staffordshire Police website.
“It promotes the outcome of certain cases in which offenders aged 18 and over are sentenced at Stafford or Stoke-on- Trent crown courts — and in this case Birmingham — to at least six months in prison or a Young Offenders’ Institution.
“The scheme was launched as part of Inside Justice Week and gives the public unique insights into their local criminal justice system.
“Behind Bars cases will remain online for one month from when the offender is sentenced. No information will be published that could identify a victim or a witness in a court case and not every offender jailed or detained for six months or more will be featured.
“Inclusion will depend on a number of factors, including any potential implications for victims.” For more information or to view the pictures visit www.staffordshire.pol ice.uk/news/behind_bars
