A DOMESTIC violence campaigner has received support from the man vying to become Burton’s next MP.
Labour’s parliamentary candidate for the town Jon Wheale has backed Eve Thomas in her calls for all political parties to support her Eve’s Law motion.
Ms Thomas has campaigned with human rights lawyers to prevent domestic abuse victims being ordered to disclose their address in open court.
Mr Wheale told the Mail, if passed, the law would protect victims and prevent the release of refuge addresses.
He said: “I hope everyone will sign up to supporting the change in the law which will implement Eve’s Law.
“Domestic violence is a horrific crime; appalling for the damage it causes physically, emotionally, sexually, but also because of the fear it instils often over many years.
“It is very rare that domestic abuse is a one off occurrence.
“More often than not physical violence is coupled with a psychological campaign of abuse and sometimes, this occurs without any physical violence at all.”
Ms Thomas, 45, from Astley Bridge, said she hoped people would get behind the campaign.
