WORK to honour the contribution made by members of the women’s land army has received a boost following two donations from a ploughing group.
The Brailsford Ploughing Match donated £1,000 to the Staffordshire Women’s Food and Farming Unions’ project to build the memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas.
The Brailsford Ploughing Match Ladies Society also donated £200 towards the project which has now raised £52,000.
During the Second World War lard girls worked in agricultural jobs which had been vacated by men to join the armed forces.
A spokesman for the union said she was ‘delighted’ with the two donations.
