Maps better than sat nav

I FEEL that I must write to you about the article ’Park Strife’ published on Wednesday, July 15, as you never gave any indication between the two post codes.

A lorry driver could be 200 miles from his base for three or four days picking up loads and delivering them every day with all his information ie post codes on the delivery notes.

For his sat nav to show him the way, he would ring back to his base or his base would ring him every day with the pick up address for his next job ie load.

Until he comes into South Derbyshire, he does not put any postcode into his sat nav. Remember, he has just rang his base for the next job and the address, his base does not know the postcode and they ring the customer for this and pass it onto the driver.

Now, if the customer or his base get it wrong, the driver will end up in the wrong place.

I myself do not have and do not want a sat nav, because I feel they do not give enough information and after 36 years lorry driving, I have a collection of A to Zs, road atlases and Ordnance Survey maps.

If all industrial estates and business parks were sign posted from A roads, there is a probability this would not happen, so I think the local council are a lot to blame.
