SATURDAY afternoons at the Pirelli Stadium are always eagerly anticipated affairs but this weekend will be one to remember for two lovebirds.
After becoming man and wife, Gavin Eaton and Kayleigh Shackles will head to the home of Burton Albion to see their team take on Oxford United on Saturday.
And for one game, irrespective of the result, it is an afternoon that neither will ever forget.
The pair will get married in Church Gresley before celebrating their wedding reception in the Albion Suite.
The couple will exchange vows in the morning before travelling to the Pirelli and are due to arrive at 3.30pm – in the middle of the League Two clash.
Football mad Gavin said: “It’ll be great to come straight from the wedding and be able to take in the second half with our friends and family.
“I’m a big football fan and have been to watch the Brewers a few times.
“Obviously when we booked it was impossible to know the fixtures for the coming season but once we realised they were at home we didn’t mind at all and it will really add to the experience of the day.”
The Pirelli Stadium is a popular venue for weddings with Gavin and Kayleigh booking their wedding breakfast and reception long before the 2013-14 fixtures were released.
However, the realisation that the stadium would be a hive of activity on the day with a football match taking place certainly didn’t put the couple off.
Close to 80 guests will be in attendance for the wedding breakfast before 190 friends and family enjoy the Swadlincote-based newlyweds’ wedding reception in the evening.
The couple will also make their way pitchside at around 4.50pm with the club having also arranged for Gavin and Kayleigh to present the man of the match magnum of Champagne at the end of Albion’s match against Oxford in recognition of their big day.
A spokesman for the club said: “Everybody at Burton Albion wishes Gavin and Kayleigh all the very best on their special day and for the future.”
