MP gears up for his role in motorbike fund-raiser

Written byROB SMYTH

BURTON’S MP will swap his suit and tie for biker leathers as he takes part in a motorcycle charity event organised by a Burton woman battling cancer.

Katherine and Stephen Sinfield, of Balfour Street, revealed Andrew Griffiths had agreed to take part in their BONE-shaker MARROW-thon, which will see dozens of bikers ride from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, to Burton’s Queen’s Hospital on Sunday, March 2.

The ride will raise money for Cure Leukaemia, Anthony Nolan and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, after all three played a vital role in helping 33-year-old Mrs Sinfield undergo a bone marrow transplant and enter remission from leukaemia last month.

She said: “The charity ride has brought out the best of Burton’s business owners.

“We have Burton Albion allowing us free use of their car park and North Stand facilities, LDC is supplying bikes so that Andrew Griffiths can ride, Arnolds Motorcycles has supplied us with raffle prizes and Hardy Signs created our eye-catching banner.

“To have the town’s MP on a motorcycle supporting my charity ride is a truly unique occurrence. I would like to thank Andrew for his support of my charity work.

“We are thrilled with the level of support the ride is receiving. We know of riders travelling down from Edinburgh, and others who plan to travel and stay overnight in Birmingham. It’s very humbling when people are willing to go to this much trouble.

“If the weather is kind to us on March 2, then the sight of hundreds of bikes travelling past Queen’s Hospital to the Pirelli Stadium will be worth watching on a Sunday morning.

“The people of Burton have been very kind during my treatment and remission from leukaemia, and I would now like to invite them all to a fun day at the Pirelli Stadium.

“We will be holding the event to welcome the bikers to Burton. It will include the usual stalls, games and raffles.”
