A 22-YEAR-OLD man caught taking drugs behind a Burton nightclub is desperate to kick the habit, a court has heard.
Ramone George admitted possession of 1,73 grammes of cathinone derivative, known as M-Cat, 0.667 grammes of cannabis and 0.109 grammes of cocaine in Burton on February 9.
Emma Thompson, prosecuting, told Burton Magistrates’ Court that George was caught with the small amount drugs after police were called when he was seen to go into the car park at the back of Fever nightclub at 3.15am.
It was reported to police that the defendant and his passenger were seen to be snorting a white powder from a piece of card.
When police arrived they found three wraps of M-Cat and the small amount of cocaine and cannabis.
During police interview George answered no comment.
Mrs Thompson added that George has a number of previous convictions relating to drugs, dating back to 2008 when he was charged with possession with intent to supply.
His latest conviction was in February this year for producing cannabis.
Michael Taylor, defending, said: “Compared to some of the offences on his record these are less serious.
“Your colleagues were concerned that he has a long standing drug habit which has not been addressed.
“He is desperate for some help to kick this habit once and for all. He does have a long term drug problem as he started using at the age of 11 and is now 22 and desperately needs some help.”
Magistrates handed George, of St Mary’s Road, in Ealing, London, a 12 month community order with a supervision requirement and a six month medium intensity drug rehabilitation programme.
He was also told to pay £60 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
Magistrates ordered for the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
