BURTON’S mayor has backed a campaign which aims to bring festive cheer to British troops serving abroad at Christmas.
Earlier this week, the Mail announced it would back the Support Our Soldiers campaign, started by Burton MP Andrew Griffiths, in which donations of toiletries and sweets can be dropped in a box in Coopers Square.
Now, East Staffordshire Mayor Michael Rodgers has thrown his weight behind the campaign.
Councillor Rodgers said: “I am delighted to support the campaign to send gifts to our troops abroad.
“East Staffordshire has a proud military history and I know the local people and business will donate to this initiative and give our troops some Christmas cheer.”
