South Derbyshire Mining Preservation Group at Gresley Old Hall - Moving to new location on the ground floor to enable better access for the disabled. .L-R: Clive Croxall, David Pitcher, Maurice West, Marjorie Croxall, Barbara West, Brian Rose, Keith MooreA GROUP for former miners has moved downstairs from its previous home to create a new area for its growing collection and better disabled access.
The South Derbyshire Mining Preservation Group socially meets at Gresley Old Hall, in Gresley Wood Road, Church Gresley, every Tuesday morning, but has now moved downstairs after being promised more room.
Keith Moore, acting secretary, said: “We have been in an upstairs room at Gresley Old Hall for many years, but we had been promised two rooms downstairs. We will use one room for normal meetings and another will be used for our displays.
“Our displays including everything from a complete mine rescue kit, right down to surveying equipment, lamps and picks and shovels, and 2,000 photographs of local mines.”
As well as creating a display area, the new move will mean better disabled access for many of its 55 members and the public.
The group has an official meeting every first Thursday of the month, and a social meeting every Tuesday morning from 10am to noon with lunch at the Catchems.
