GREEN-FINGERED residents have attended a tidy up event hosted by a parish council at the weekend.

Branston Parish Council held a Conservation Day to help make the village a tidier place.

The event took place on Sunday, at Clays Lane Playing Field.

The parish council along with local residents was tidying up the area in readiness for the spring.

Mike Ackroyd, chairman of Branston Parish council said: “It was a fantastic day and was really well supported by all of the local residents.”

The parish council invited members of Burton Conservation Group along to the playing fields and involved a general tidy up of the area including an area of hedgerow which had become overgrown with brambles.

To advertise the event, villagers distributed posters and around 20 to 25 people donned their hats and scarves to lend a helping hand.

The parish council will meet tonight at Paget High School’s Business Centre, in Burton Road, from 7pm.
