Mother and daughter are planning a real high five
A MOTHER and daughter have signed themselves up to the challenge of a lifetime in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for a charity close to their hearts.
Judy Hall and her daughter, Eloise, of Repton, will be taking part in the Five Peaks Challenge to mark the fifth anniversary of Help for Heroes.
The duo, who have to raise at least £1,300 each for the cause, will endure a staggering 17,000ft of ascent, 40 miles of mountain paths and 800 miles of trekking on Tarmac, while aiming to scale the highest peaks in the five nations which make up the British Isles.
The brave fund-raisers, who start the challenge on July 4, are preparing to tackle Mount Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England, Ben Nevis in Scotland, Slieve Donnard in Northern Ireland and Carrantuohill in the Republic of Ireland.
They aim to complete the challenge within 55 hours.
Mrs Hall, 47, told the Mail: “This is going to be a very, very tough challenge.
“We enjoy walking but we have never done anything like this before.
“We have got to take part in a specialist 12-week training programme to prepare us for it and we need to get really fit.
“Eloise loves fund-raising for the charity and wanted to sign up for this straight away when she saw it, but because she is only 17, she needed an adult to accompany her, so I’ve been roped into doing it “I think I’ll need a spa week or a holiday afterwards.”
Eloise, who has completed three Race for Life fund-raising events in the past, raised £1,074 for Help for Heroes last year after a sponsored sky-dive, leaping out of a plane at 13,000ft when she was only 16.
Mrs Hall added: “Eloise keeps spurring me on to do it. We have to be determined to complete it and think about the cause that we are raising money for.
“I know it’s going to be hard, but it will be worth it as the charity does amazing work for our troops and it will be a personal achievement for us.
“This is an amazing challenge and to do it with my daughter is even better.
“Eloise is really enthusiastic about it and can’t wait to do it.
“I, on the other hand, am a little nervous about completing it.”
