THE winner of the Ashby Young Musician award has been announced.
Frances Gibson retained the trophy with a beautifully elegant performance of the Adagio non Troppo movement from Mozart’s Oboe Concerto at Ashby School.
The judges were unable to fault her playing and said: “An excellent performance, great playing, exceptionally high standard - a pleasure to listen to such an enjoyable execution of this piece.”
Winners of the Junior Ensembles were the Hilltop Trio of Millie Allen, Mia and Sadie Longhurst.
Ms Longhurst then went on to win as a junior violin soloist.
Montrose Strings won the Intermediate Groups section.
Sophie Crawford, Lydia McFerran and Grace Garner won in the Intermediate Ensembles.
All of the competitors will be entered in the district semi-finals on Saturday, February 23 at John Ferneley College, in Melton Mowbray.
