THE mother of a Burton woman who is missing and feared dead was the last person to speak to her before she vanished, police have revealed.

West Midlands Police told the Mail that 60-year-old Janet Bennett spoke to her daughter Lisa just days before she disappeared more than eight months ago.

Murder squad detectives released the information as part of a renewed appeal for help in finding out exactly what happened to the 39-year-old from Winshill - just one week after they revealed that they had ‘no hope’ of finding her alive.

A 33-year-old man was arrested and bailed in connection with her murder and now officers again pleaded with the public to help them piece together what happened.

Janet said: “I will never, ever forget that call with Lisa but it would just be nice to have some closure and grieve for her. We just want to know what has happened.”

A spokesman for the force said: “We know that Lisa contacted her mother in May but has not been seen since she made that call. We are asking the people of Burton to help us in this bid to find out what happened to Lisa and bring some closure to her family.”

Lisa Bennett left the flat she shared with her boyfriend in Selly Oak, Birmingham, on May 9 last year and has not been seen since she visited a nearby Lloyds chemist just hours later.

Despite extensive police searches from the time she went missing, along with statements taken from Lisa’s family, friends, neighbours and local businesses, the 39-year-old has never been found.

Officers were called in after her mum Janet, who lives in Burton, contacted West Midlands Police two weeks later, worried that she had not been in contact with her.

Janet added: “It is not knowing what has happened to her that is the most difficult thing to come to terms with. Nobody deserves this; we just want to know what has happened.”

Detective Inspector Warren Hines said: “Anybody in Burton who has got any information in relation to Lisa’s life should get in touch with us.”

Lisa is white, around 5ft 8ins tall with short dark brown or blonde hair and has a tattoo of a flower on the back of her neck.

Anyone with information can call detectives on 101.
