Using the latest automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) equipment, Burton Police relaunched Operation Avon: Ring of Steel, today which targeted drug dealers using the town’s roads.
Police and East Staffordshire Borough Council’s enforcement officers targeted major routes in and out of Burton.
In the resulting crackdown, police seized one uninsured vehicle believed to have been used in crime, and a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cannabis possession and is currently helping police with enquiries.
Council enforcement officer s were also out checking taxi drivers, making sure documentation was up to date and that vehicles were licensed
Sniffer dogs were also out in force and police visited addresses in Burton which are believed to be the scene of potential drug offences.
Steve Maskrey, commander of the East Staffordshire policing team, said the day was very worthwhile.
