THE largest school in Derbyshire has appointed a new head teacher.
John Port School, in Etwall, has revealed that Chris Sainsbury, who has been the acting head teacher since November 2012, has been appointed.
Mr Sainsbury brings to the role his experience as a senior leader in a number of other schools and has enjoyed significant success while leading John Port School in the capacity of acting head.
Barrie Whyman, chairman of the governing body at John Port School, said: “We are pleased to welcome Mr Sainsbury to his substantive post.
“We are grateful for the energy, drive and leadership he has demonstrated over the past 14 months of his acting headship and the improvements he has achieved in so many different areas of school and student performance from top to bottom.
“We look forward to working with Mr Sainsbury and supporting his focus, commitment and determination to further enhance the opportunities, progress and achievement of all associated with John Port School.”
Mr Sainsbury replaces Wendy Sharp, who decided to step down from the role last year after a leave of absence.
