SOUTH Derbyshire’s first citizen is keen to meet as many residents and community groups as he can before handing over the chains of office.

Mick Bale, chairman of the area’s district council, has appealed for anyone with a story to tell to contact him before his term ends in May.

He said: “When I took the chains I said I intended to enjoy every second of the experience and visit all corners of the district.

“That hasn’t changed. I don’t want to have a free day.

“Meeting the people and communities – and celebrating the contributions they make to the area – is a thrill for me.

“I hope to see as many as possible over the coming months.”

To invite the chairman to meet a group or attend an event, contact Cheryl Lukaszewicz on 01283 595765 or email chairsoffice@south-derbys.gov.uk
