SHOPPING centre bosses were breathing a huge sigh of relief yesterday after ironing out teething problems with a new parking system in Burton that caused havoc for visitors.
Peter Hardingham, manager of The Octagon shopping centre, was forced to apologise after the launch of a new registration plate based car park system resorted in long queues and angry customers on Tuesday.
However, a technical glitch that caused the problem has now been resolved and the new system was working as normal yesterday.
Mr Hardingham (pictured) said: “There was simply no excuse for the issues that they faced and we are very, very sorry.
“I would like to tell shoppers that this is very similar to the old parking system, the only difference is that there are no tickets.”
The system takes a picture of car number plates, which people then have to enter when they pay to leave.
