STAFF at a Burton based business have raised more than £2,000 for a local charity which provides family holidays for terminally ill children.
Employees at Npower, in Wetmore Road, gathered at Henhurst Social Club for a fund-raising evening for Me & Dee – a charity providing holidays founded by Ticknall based Maria Hanson.
Luke Gratton, quality analyst at Npower, said: “Although Npower’s national charity is Macmillan, our company also encourages staff to support their local community.
We decided to actively get involved in supporting Me & Dee because we were touched by the vision Maria has to provide a practical way to support people with a terminal illness.
“We felt Maria was an absolute local champion, someone who has come through incredible personal challenges and yet selflessly gives herself towards to the task of meeting other people’s needs.
“We gathered at Henhurst Social Club to try and raise as much money as we could to help towards her vision of purchasing a static caravan to provide a place of sanctity for families who are living through the trauma of a loved one coping with a terminal illness.
“During the evening there was a quiz, talent competition, raffle, auction, and a head shaving escapade, and as Npower will match the money generated pound for pound, our total raised was in excess of £2,400.
“The evening was a massive success with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves and we look forward to the continued partnership with Me & Dee.”
