PEDAL power has been behind a fund-raising drive by pupils at Pingle School, which has raised money for Sport Relief and Help for Heroes.
More than 100 young people at the Swadlincote school spent hours in the gym on spin bikes as they took part in the latest leg of a challenge to ride around the world in 80 school days.
This bit of the trek saw them reach Berlin.
The challenge has been set by keen fund-raiser Chelsea Neat, who was named a Burton Mail child of courage for her work earlier in the year.
The year 11 pupils said: “The first week saw some hard cycling throughout Europe and we reached Berlin in good time.
“We need to push on through Russia next week in order to keep on target to make it in the 80 days.
“We are welcoming the gym instructors from St George’s Park next week and are hoping they will cycle a lot of miles to add to our ever increasing total.”
The challenge will be completed in the new year.
