PEOPLE in Burton have been given advice on how to keep their money safe and not give criminals an ‘easy steal’.

Staffordshire Police has launched a crime prevention drive to keep people’s personal property safe.

It comes as many people are planning to splash the cash during the festive sales.

The tips include:

l Always keep money, purses and wallets out of sight and never lead bags unattended;

l Avoid carrying large amounts of cash;

l Never store a copy of your pin number with your bank cards;

l Be extra careful when withdrawing money from a cash machine.

Assistant Chief Constable Julian Blazeby said police were also stepping up patrols.

Officers in Burton will be hoping the measures work as the past two years have since incidents of thefts and shoplifting rise in the town centre.

To report a crime, call police on 101.
