POLICE investigating a suspected assault in a South Derbyshire park are linking the incident to another attack committed on the same night in Leicestershire.
Detectives from Leicestershire Police believe an incident at the Maurice Lea Memorial Park, in Church Gresley, was connected to an attack on a 39-year-old man in Shackerstone, near Twycross, also carried out on Saturday night.
Parts of both Shackerstone and Maurice Lea Memorial Park were cordoned off while police forensic specialists carried out tests.
No-one has yet been arrested in connection with the offences.
A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating an assault on a man in Shackerstone which happened shortly before 11pm on Saturday. The man has received medical treatment for minor injuries.
“Parts of the village have been cordoned off to allow for forensic examination to take place.
Investigations are ongoing.”
It is believed events leading up to the assault in Leicestershire began in Church Gresley, although officers have declined to elaborate further.
