Pork and poultry firm delight with awards
BARTON under Needwood based pork and poultry farmers Packington Free Range have been awarded three highly sought after Great Taste Stars.
The free range pork produce stood out for the judges, with their Pork Loin awarded one Great Taste star and Packington Free Range Pork Shoulder two stars.
Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, Great Taste rewards producers on flavour and quality.
This year Great Taste saw nearly 10,000 entries, but the judging panel recognised the quality of the Packington Free Range produce within those entries.
Packington Free Range joint managing director Alec Mercer said: “As the most recognised food award in the country, the Great Taste gold stars are something we have always aimed for.”
Arson attack on home still on agenda for cops
POLICE have launched a renewed appeal for witnesses to an arson at a house in Midway.
Derbyshire Police are still trying to find those responsible for the incident which took place between 2.30pm on Saturday, August 3 and 9.20am the following morning.
Accelerant was poured through the letterbox of a house in Springfield Road and ignited.
The fire caused damage to the front door. No one was inside at the time of the fire.

Pub firms cross fingers ahead of competition
TWO Burton-based pub giants have been shortlisted for the pub champion award by the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA).
Punch Taverns and Marston’s are up against other pub companies including Daniel Thwaites, Everards and Star Pubs & Bars.
BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds said: “This year was incredibly difficult for our judges who were overwhelmed with excellent examples that they had to carefully deliberate to decide between.
“I was highly impressed with variety of ways that our members have added to the industry in throughout the past year.”
The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in October.
Pink ladies out on show to raise cash at Albion
A CHARITY collection will be taking place before Burton Albion’s home game against Bury.
Burton Breast Care Support Group will be out and about at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday, August 24.
Any cash raised will go directly to the Burton Hospital Chemotherapy Unit for the treatment of cancer patients.
All the ladies involved will be wearing pink shirts and pink sashes.
