A PROPOSAL to expand a Burton primary school will go ahead after county leaders rubber stamped the plans.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet gave the green light to expand Rykneld Primary School, in Branston, from 469 pupils to 630 pupils by 2020.

The extension will include six new classes to replace temporary classrooms plus four additional rooms.

Ben Adams, the county council’s cabinet member for learning and skills, said: “These latest measure is part of our ambition to create a prosperous Staffordshire where young people can learn, grow and make a significant contribution to the success of the area.

“By acting now, we can ensure we are ready to meet future pressures on pupil places in the area.”
