Pub company sends staff off for hands-on mission

Written byBY HELEN KREFT

SENIOR managers of a Burton-based pub company have completed a full shift behind the bar of a pub to understand what its like to be a ‘team player.’

Managers from the Spirit Pub Company support centre were placed in roles on the bar and the kitchen at the Corner House, in Centrum 100, off Wellington Road, Burton, throughout last week.

Clive Briscoe, commercial director at the company, said: “It is essential for the team and I to understand how we operate to be able to make informed decisions on how best to delight our guests.

“This experience has confirmed how hard our team works and the different pressures that are placed on them, to ensure that our guests have an enjoyable experience.

Jules Dus, joint general manager of the pub who was also responsible for mentoring the senior members, said: “I was extremely impressed with the team; they got stuck in straight away without any hesitation.

“I think they were a little surprised about how tiring a shift can be when you’re trying to meet the needs of a busy pub, but they stuck with it until the end.

“It’s encouraging that the senior managers were first to take up a shift and we hope others will follow suit soon.”

Spirit Pub Company owns and operates more than 790 managed pubs across the UK under brands such as Flaming Grill, Chef & Brewer, Fayre & Square and Taylor Walker.
