A REQUEST from pupils has seen children from a Stapenhill school try out new sports as part of a winter workshop.
Blessed Robert Sutton Catholic Sports College, off Stanton Road, is currently holding a winter version of National School Sports Week in a bid to try out different activities.
All this week pupils have been trying out wheelchair basketball, Cheerleading, Rush Hockey, Tchoukball – similar to basketball but thrown against a wall, Ice Skating and Rock it ball, as well as street surfing (pictured) which blends surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding into one activity. These are all taking place at lunchtimes and afterschool.
The school’s Student Sports Council stated in one of its meetings that members enjoyed the National School sports week last June so much that they asked if the school could have its own ‘winter’ version of a taster week.
