Pupils wear red to aid disaster relief

Written byHELEN KREFT

A SCHOOL held a ‘wear red’ non-uniform day on Friday which has raised £700 for charity.

Cakes were also on sale at lunch at Ivanhoe College, in Ashby, and two of its pupils, Euan and Alex, were responsible for organising the event.

Half the money raised will go to RedR - is an international disaster relief charity that helps to save lives around the world by training aid workers and providing skilled professionals to humanitarian programmes worldwide.

The remaining money will go towards funding Euan and Alex’s trip to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan.

Many donations were also made to the Ashby Food Bank which will go towards supporting those who need food in the local area.

Anne-Marie Blewitt, principal, said “We’re very proud of our students, especially Euan and Alex, who have taken the initiative to organise today. Alongside providing the highest standards of education Ivanhoe College is keen to raise money for charities and support those that need help in our local community.”
