Neighbours were shocked to learn that officers from Leicestershire Police found the occupant of a bungalow in South Close, Blackfordby, had died after he had not been seen for ‘quite some time’.

The man, who is believed to have been in his 40s, had only recently moved to the area and was described as having ‘kept himself to himself’.

One of his neighbours, who asked not to be named, told the Mail: “It is so tragic.

He has only lived here a few months. It is such a shock.

“The first time anyone knew anything was wrong was when the blue lights of the police cars were seen outside his house.

“The police then forced their way in and we then got told that the man had died.

“He was in his 40s and had only recently moved here. He kept himself to himself and no-one even knew what his first name was. Nobody had really seen him for quite some time.

“He was a quiet and lonely man, who was deeply religious. It is so sad to think that he died alone.”

Police discovered the body on Tuesday evening after the force had received a call from a neighbour who was concerned for his welfare.

Upon arrival, officers could not raise the attention of the occupant, decided to force their way into the premise and discovered the man’s body.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: “We can confirm that we attended an address in South Close, Blackfordby on Tuesday evening.

“A call had been received raising concerns for the occupant’s welfare and after entering the property, the body of a man was discovered.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

“In terms of identification, this will be a matter that will be dealt with by the coroner.”
