Recycling centre facing a 'noisy neighbour' probe
ONE of the biggest recycling centres in South Derbyshire is under investigation after noise complaints from neighbours.
Ward Recycling in Woodville will be visited by officials from the Environment Agency this week after residents bemoaned the ‘banging noise’ coming from its Moira Road site.
The waste management and recycling firm said it had not been informed by the agency and so could not comment.
However, some people living in Moira Road said they were unhappy about the levels of noise caused by metals clanging together.
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “They do make a lot of noise and there are some problems with it.
“It’s like a constant banging and you can sometimes hear it at night and at the weekends.
“I have lived on Moira Road for eight years and I think it is getting worse. It’s mostly the older people that are affected by it.
“It upsets you when you are trying to get to sleep. But you do get used to it and you just have to put up with it.”
South Derbyshire District Council confirmed the authority had passed people’s concerns onto the agency.
A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “We are currently investigating this matter and discussions with those concerned will be taking place soon.
“We cannot say anything further at this stage.”
The family-run company has been operating since the 1950s and employs more than 100 people across its two sites in Woodville and Ilkeston.
It specialises in the recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, according to its website.
The company said: “We are unable to comment because the Environment Agency has not told us about it.”
