FOUR reminiscence pods – RemPods for short – have now been delivered to Queen’s Hospital in Burton, in the hope they will help patients suffering with dementia.
The pop-up units, which featured on TV’s Dragons Den, recreate a 1950s living room, with authentic reproduction newspapers, magazines and memorabilia providing a real talking point for elderly people at the hospital. Modern technology will be used to play songs and shows of the era.
The pods have been funded by the hospital’s league of friends. Treasurer Sheila Jackson said: “These RemPods will prove so invaluable for dementia patients who can remember every detail of things like Coronation Day – although their short term memory has been lost.”
They are intended to promote a relaxed and calm state of mind.
