Residents' early-morning call after car hits house
A WOMAN motorist had to be taken to hospital after she crashed her car into a house.
The 24-year-old had to be cut out of her Citroen Saxo following the collision with a property opposite the Royal Oak pub in High Street, Newhall.
Police received the initial call at 5.50am yesterday after passing motorists reported that a car had struck a house and two people were trapped in the vehicle.
Firefighters from Burton and Swadlincote attended the scene and administered first aid before the woman was released from the vehicle at 6.16am.
The passenger in the car — a 31-yearold man — was sitting in the front of the vehicle but escaped unharmed.
The road was closed to allow the emergency services better access to the vehicle while the driver was removed.
She was found to have no serious injuries, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.
There was no structural damage to the building — only minor damage to a ground-floor window and cladding.
A High Street resident, who asked not to be named, said: “It happened so early that no-one really knew what had happened.
“I woke up to see blue lights filling my bedroom and landing and scuttled over to the window to see a load of police cars and fire engines.
“I could see the owner of the house outside but not much more.
“It was only later, when my husband took the dogs out for a walk, that we saw the damage and learned that the car had hit the house.”
In another incident yesterday, a Vauxhall Corsa overturned on the A514 in Stanton-by-Bridge at 8.44am. Its male driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
